When you are faced with a problem, you look for a way to fix it. Guys are especially known for their aptitude for problem-solving. But when you try to fix a problem that cannot be resolved, you only make the problem worse. Like Peter, we need to be reconditioned to see that some problems are bigger than we are. Sometimes the solution is simply to understand the problem.

Have you ever needed to have an old chair or couch reconditioned? That work can make a huge difference. Have you ever needed a little “reconditioning?” An attitude changed? A perspective tweaked? The truth is: sometimes we may not even know that we need it. In this sermon series, we’re going to see the reconditioning that Jesus did in the life of one of His closest friends, Peter. And in the process, Jesus has some reconditioning for us too.

Even when you get past the Starting Point of faith, there will be times when God seems distant or absent. There will be seasons of life defined by spiritual dryness and lack of conviction. Times when God seems more like a concept than a reality. The good news is that Jesus predicted these times would come, and what’s even better is that he did something about it. When Jesus sat down at the Passover table with his disciples, he provided tangible proof of God's presence and God's love. What you find at the table today will carry you through your Starting Point and beyond.

Knowing who you really are is so important. It's easy to find our identity in the things that we do or pursue, or even in the people we hang out with. And yet, when identity is found in the wrong place, it can so easily lead to feelings of disappointment, inadequacy, or even failure. In this message we're going to unpack an event that God gave to be a major blessing and, believe it or not, it helps with identity.

Faith is a topic that seems to always come up when people talk about God. And yet, there seems to be lots of confusion about what faith is and how it works. Here's what's clear: faith is important and so a right understanding of faith is important too. (Sounds like something to talk about in a sermon.) In this message we'll unpack the meaning and power of faith.

Sunday Jan 31, 2016

One of the things that can move a person to search for God is guilt. Most of us have things that we've said or done in the past that have caused us guilt. And...many of us have done all sorts of things in an effort to get rid of it. As we continue Starting Point, we're going to find that the central message of Christianity is the solution to sin and guilt. This is a message that will help you better understand the heart of Christianity and...help you let go of guilt.

If someone is at the starting point of their faith as an adult, one of their biggest questions will revolve around the origin of the universe. Can people today still believe in a biblical, 6-day account of creation? What about all the facts that the scientific community uses to promote an evolutionary account? In this message we'll see that this issue isn’t about "faith vs. fact." It’s about faith vs. faith... and only one can be grounded on fact.

The greatest selling book in history is the Bible. Christians base their beliefs and hope on the truth it contains. And so, as we go back to the starting point of faith, we're going to explore this important book. Where did it come from? Is it reliable? Is its message still relevant in 2015? And as we address these questions, the hope is that we would begin the regular habit of opening it up and reading it for ourselves.

Sunday Jan 10, 2016

There are lots of ideas about God. There are lots of ideas about who He is. How does a person know what's right and what's wrong? Where does a person even start? In this message we're going to find some answers to those questions by centering our focus on an event in history.

Sunday Jan 03, 2016

Everything has a starting point. Every person. Every idea. Every journey. Faith also has a starting point. In this 8 week sermon series, we’re going to be exploring faith and God as if we all were at the starting point.
