Following Jesus results in so many earthly and eternal blessings. But at times it can also be inconvenient, costly, and even embarrassing. It can cause us to miss opportunities, lose business, or stand out in the crowd when we’d rather fit in. When one of Jesus' first disciples was confronted with a big reason to unfollow Jesus, he asked a question that still puts everything in perspective: “To whom shall I go?”

You can tell who a person follows by looking at what they wear. If someone is loyal to a team or a brand, you will almost certainly see it in how they dress. So what should followers of Jesus wear? We have seen throughout this series how Jesus wanted Peter to have a change of perspective on some important things. Yet no matter how much Jesus tried to do, it seems like Peter just didn't get it. This weekend we finally get to see the fully reconditioned version of Peter that Jesus was looking for. We'll talk about what it took to get him there, and also what it takes for you to be truly reconditioned.

“Drink the cup before you” is the biblical version of our modern phrase “play the hand you’re dealt.” It means there isn’t much you can do about the circumstances of life, so you should just play along with them. But every once in a while there comes an opportunity to change your circumstances. Peter had an opportunity like that where he had to decide between drinking his cup and fighting for a new one. Peter had to be reconditioned in the way he understood God's will - as does everyone who wants to follow Jesus.

Not paying attention can cause problems. It's true with driving. It's true with parenting. It's true at work. And sometimes...problems occur because we didn't even know something needed our attention. This week as we continue to be reconditioned, we're going to see Jesus encourage Peter to pay attention and stay awake. And in the process, Jesus is going to teach us to pay attention to something that if ignored can cause spiritual problems.
